General description
Old cottage garden plant .Bred by the master of Slough workshouse England in the 1860s who named it after his wife. It has fringed white heavily clove scented flowers in May/Early june. Still one of the finest old fashioned garden pinks. Pinks were a favourite garden plant in 16th and 17th century England
Plant requirements
Best in full sun on a rich but alkaline loamy soil. Moist but well drained
Maintenance
feed regularly and remove dead heads after floweing. produce new plants from small soft tip cuttings /pipings
Practical use
The base of the petals of this and other clove pinks was used to flavour food and for medicinal purposes in the 16th and 17th Century
