General description

It is a compact, deciduous shrub with a rounded habit which typically grows to 2-3' tall. Blooms in July for up to two months. Ovate, glossy, yellowish-green leaves.

Plant requirements

Best grown in rich, medium moisture, well-drained soil in part shade. Tolerates full sun only if grown with constant moisture. Soil pH affects the flower color of the non-showy fertile florets (blue in highly acidic soils and pink in slightly acidic to alkaline soils), but not the color of the showy sterile florets.

Maintenance

Bloom occurs on old wood. Prune any time after flowering by cutting back flowering stems to a pair of healthy buds. Prune out weak or winter-damaged stems in early spring.
