General description

Clematis koreana "Propertius" is one of a series 20 hybrids raised by Magnus Johnson in Sweden in 1979. It was named after the Roman author Sextus Propertius. It is a Spring flowering plant in the Atragene group, along with the macropetala and alpina types. It shares their attributes of being compact, at around 8' in height and, needing little or no pruning. It is very free flowing when established and the flowers can be almost 3" across. It will grow equally well in sun or shade but it is said to be more scented if grown in the sun.
