General description

This native cultivar adds beautiful color, texture, and height to the shade garden late in the season. Deep bronze purple leaves form an upright clump. Fragrant, mauve pink to white, bottlebrush flowers in late summer through early fall. Distinctive specimen. Pair with ferns, hostas, cardinal flowers, Solomon's Seal, ligularia, Alstroemeria.

Plant requirements

Performs best in rich, moist soil and partial shade. Foliage will be greener in full shade. Takes a few years to get established but it is worth the wait.

Maintenance

Easy to grow in zones 4 through 8.
