Hydrangea macrophylla 'Shugert'

Photo: Forever & Ever Summer Lace Hydrangea

General description

The first lacecap to be introduced in the Forever & Ever hydrangea collection. Blooms on both old and new wood. It can be pruned back each year and still produce lovely, lacy lavender-pink to blue flowers, depending on soil pH. Use for summer color in beds, borders, foundation plantings and as a patio accent in containers.  Blooms July through September.

Plant requirements

Zones 4-6: Full sun to partial shade.

Zones 7-8: Partial shade.

Maintenance

Keep soil moist but not saturated. Fertilize in spring, using a fertilizer such as 10-10-10, following package directions. Water occasionally throughout the fall & winter, especially before a hard freeze. A 3-4'' layer of organic mulch is recommended year round to reduce weeds, conserve moisture, and protect the roots during cold weather. Little pruning is required, other than removing spent flowers or to trim to desired size in early spring.
