General description

Features: one of the best flowers for adding lasting color to hot, dry situations. Produces masses of rich violet-purple flower spikes in June, followed by waves of blooms through the summer. No pest or disease problems. Ht: 15-18 inches. Blooms June to August. Attracts hummingbirds and deer resistant. Hardiness zones 4-7.

Plant requirements

Full sun. Durable plants for open, sunny places. Ordinary, well-drained soil is adequate.

Maintenance

Remove faded flowers to extend bloom season. Keep  on the dry side in autumn and winter. Can be divided in spring or fall.

Practical use

Plant in drifts or bands for best effect.

Planted 2014 or earlier near front porch. At present, June 11, 2015 some purple flowers showing. Had a very wet and cool spring in 2015.
