Foxtail Lily

Eremurus stenophyllum

Photo: Foxtail Lily

Eremurus (Foxtail Lily or Desert Candle) blooms in early summer with tall spikes of stunning bright yellow flowers. Plant them in well-drained soil where they get full sun. Perennial in USDA zones 5-8 (mulch well in zones 5-6, and remove in early spring). Eremerus are not well-suited for containers as they prefer not to be moved once established. Foxtail Lilies make stunning cut flowers.

Eremurus are herbaceous perennials growing from fleshy roots, with rosettes of strap-shaped basal leaves and a dense racemes of small star-shaped flowers on erect leafless stems
