General description
Peppermint (Mentha x piperita) has the strongest flavor of all the mints. It grows from 12 to 30 inches tall and spreads easily by root sprouts. Peppermint thrives in full sun and part shade and likes soil with a high moisture content. It is a perennial herb that is often used for a groundcover because of its easy-spreading growth habits. The tiny white flowers on stem-tip spikes begin blooming in August, continuing until fall.
