I know next to nothing about plants.  I never really had much of an interest, the garden was always my Dad's domain, but recently I've been diagnosed with a mobility disorder.  Certain tasks are very difficult and there is no cure- the only thing that might help is certain "low impact" exercises.  Gardening was recommended to me very highly and as I have also had depression in the past and gardening is supposed to help with that as well, I thought I would give it a try.  I hope I enjoy this.

Let's see how this pans out.

  • Sharon N. Sharon N. Hi Amy. Go for it! I started gardening 4 years ago with zero knowledge. I now have beautiful floral gardens. I find it so peaceful to be out in nature. Start with hardy hibiscus. The flowers are 10 inches in diameter. Plant them now. They will start growing in July next year and will go to September. Mine are still active now. They get better every year. Another great one is Butterfly Bush, blooms in July. Earlier bloomers are Encore Azalea that blooms in spring and returns in the Fall. All these plants are perennials. They will come back every years.
