Katie Schaller
From the photo album: Gardens 2012
My "new" kitchen garden made from repurposed wood. I put in thyme, parsley, Greek oregano, rosemary, dill, cilantro, purple & globe basils, nastrutium and a wave petunia for color. It all looks so tiny now, but it will be a tangled mess before long! It stands to my waist, so no bending required!

  • Laura Hatt That is so neat. Reminds me of these fairy gardens photos I keep seeing. Do you use all of those when cooking? Saturday June 30, 2012 at 18:10
  • Katie Schaller Some of them. At this point, they are still pretty small, so I pinch to make them bushy then head out to the "real" garden for the bulk of my basil and oregano. Now I also have mesclun coming up in the bare spots. Sunday July 1, 2012 at 03:12
  • Laura Hatt That sounds so cool. How much sun do you think they need? Sunday July 1, 2012 at 05:20
  • Katie Schaller Probably a little more than they are getting. This is against the west side of my house, so sun doesn't hit it until after 1pm or so. Sunday July 1, 2012 at 17:25
  • Laura Hatt LOL sounds like my yard...still getting use to a house facing east and west...our last house was north to south..so different..but at least I have a big yard on the south side. Was showing my hubby your photo..how big would you say that box is? Sunday July 1, 2012 at 19:59
  • Katie Schaller outside edge to outside edge the measurements are 27"x38" and the sides are made from 2x10's. The overall height from ground to top edge is about 39"...it would be more comfortable at 36" (I'm 5'3"). I drilled holes and lined the inside with landscape fabric adrainage.
