  • Indianapolis resident, new member who just just discovered site via Kim Komando. This week, harvested hardneck garlics, bush beans, japanese eggplant and raspberries. Tomatoes are setting fruit profusely. Yellow zucchini is blooming, but won't set fruit. What gives? Tuesday July 12, 2011 at 21:58

  • Barbara Elliott Squashes need bees to pollinate. The male bloom is closest to the roots. The rest are female and need insects to be pollinated. Wednesday July 13, 2011 at 00:57
  • Brett Farrell Thanks Barbara! I never knew about the sex differences in their flowers. We seem to have fewer honeybees this summer and this may be the unfortunate consequence. Wednesday July 13, 2011 at 01:20
  • Barbara Elliott You can get out there with a small brush and do the job. It all depends on how bad you want zucchini! Wednesday July 13, 2011 at 01:22
