  • April L.I planted wave petunias in my pots and most of them have shriveled up and died! We have had a lot of rain----is this the problem? I planted them in a generous portion of compost and Miracle grow potting soil. Any suggestions or comments?

  • Katie S. Katie S. Perhaps too wet or perhaps bugs got to the stem right at the dirt level? Did you notice anything like that? I had alyssum do that shortly after I planted it, and there were a lot of sal bugs (pill bugs, roley poleys - no idea what their true name is!). Not sure if they caused the damage, or were just cleaning up the dead stuff after the fact.

  • Ivy W. Ivy W. We've had alot of rain, my sister raises a lot of petunias. And the petunias are not doing well with it being so wet. I noticed too a couple of my roses have mildew, that speads too easily in the wet.

  • Katie S. Katie S. My mountain phlox are showing signs of mildew now, not surprising with all this rain!

  • April L. April L. First in Baltimore we had rain, rain, rain in April, May & some of June. Then we triple digit temps & high humidity in the end of June & half of July. Now it almost feels like September gets warm upper 80's in the day but cools off at night. My garden has done terrible this year between the weather & the Japanese Beetles!! I find my plants either getting mildew or baking. Maybe going into August & September will better----at least I will have Mum!

  • Katie S. Katie S. Same for us in NY, April. All my veggies are under producing. At last, they are perking up and starting to do more now that we are not in that awful heat wave from a couple weeks ago.
